Dear Rotarians,
Today's newsletter marks the beginning of a special series dedicated to the rare and exciting visit of Rotary International President-Elect Stephanie A. Urchick to our district. In this edition, you will find my news about the first day of Stephanie's visit, along with several regular columns. Over the coming days, our newsletter will provide ongoing coverage of Stephanie A. Urchick's journey through our district, culminating in her appearance at our district conference.
I hope you enjoy the read.
Yours sincerely,
DG Katarína Čechová
On Sunday, May 12th, we embarked on a long trip to Oradea, Romania, accompanied by our club member Zvono Bednarcik. The journey went by quickly, partly because the highway through Hungary was nearly empty, allowing for smooth and fast driving, but mainly because we were excited to meet Stephanie.
Yesterday morning, we bid farewell to our Romanian friends from District 2241 and Rotary International Director-Elect Daniel Tanase from Moldova, which also belongs to District 2241.
Then, we set off with Stephanie on an almost three-hour journey to Trebišov and Košice.
At the border crossing from Hungary into Slovakia, Stephanie whispered with a smile, "And this is my first time in Slovakia!"

In Trebišov, we were met by Miro Vaško, Peter Sklenčár, and Marian Puci, members of the Board of Directors of RC Trebišov. After a refreshing walk through the beautiful Trebišov park, featuring the mausoleum of Count Julius Andrássy's family, which was illuminated in the evening by RC Trebišov members, we had a joint meeting.
Stephanie focused on discussing with club members how to make the club atmosphere more appealing to attract young people. She praised the club's recent project of developing a partnership with a local high school. The meeting was briefly attended by five students from the local high school along with their teacher.
The Trebišov Rotarians also prepared a meeting with the Mayor of Trebišov Marek Čižmar. Stephanie brought to the attention of the Mayor, who highly praised the work of RC Trebišov for the city, the possibility of erecting a Rotary Peace Pole "May Peace Prevail on Earth". The Mayor was intrigued by the idea.
And then it was time to move on to Košice, where Stephanie was waiting for another rich program. On the way we stopped with Stephanie and the Trebišov Rotarians at the County Column in the village of Dargov, which was rebuilt from a ruin into a remarkable monument by the Rotarians from Trebišov. The Mayor of Dargov also expressed his gratitude and did not miss the opportunity to meet and greet RIPE Stephanie.
The Rotary Club of Košice Classic is the most significant supporter of the Rubicon Autism Center in Košice-Myslava. Around 90 children and young people with autism, aged 4 to 20, visit the center daily.
The children prepared a special performance for Stephanie. The work of the teachers and professional staff at the center is truly remarkable.
We also visited the kitchen and dining room, whose modern equipment was purchased by RC Košice Classic.
Stephanie expressed her sadness for the children who live with the heavy burden of autism. However, seeing all that Rotarians can support to improve their lives reaffirms her belief in the importance and generosity of our service.
