District 2240 Newsletter
(7/22/2025)

Dear Rotarians and friends of Rotary,

Summer is in full swing – a time for rest, travel, family, and recharging. Yet, the Rotary spirit remains active even during the holidays. Many clubs continue organizing events that celebrate fellowship, charity, movement, and shared values.

Among this summer’s highlights was the 49th Open European Rotary Golf Championship, which has already taken place. Congratulations to the organizers on the successful execution of this significant event – you can read more about it in the following pages.

Special thanks also go to everyone involved in HandiCamp 2025 – The Camp that Connects – an invaluable initiative that demonstrates the heart of Rotary through action and compassion.

We’ve also received invitations from abroad – this time from Slovenia and, as tradition holds, from Armenia – places where Rotary friendships continue to cross borders.

We’re also looking forward to the upcoming golf events in Slovakia: the 18th Slovak Rotary Golf Championship, and the Charity Tournament at RED OAK Golf Club Nitra on Saturday, September 27, 2025.

The most important events this season, however, are those celebrating 100 years of Rotary in our district:

  1. The official centennial celebration at the Lobkowicz Palace in Prague, with the honored presence of Czech President Petr Pavel and the First Lady – an extraordinary recognition for our district and the Rotary community. Congratulations to the organizers for making this happen – it will surely be a memorable and dignified celebration.

  2. The planting of the Rotary Alley of Czecho-Slovak Statehood – 100 trees as a living tribute to the values Rotary has upheld for a century. This event will take place on October 28, 2025, in Vestec near Prague, and all clubs are warmly invited to join.

Further spectacular invitations are to be found below.

Finally, on behalf of the editorial team, thank you to all clubs and leaders not only for organizing these inspiring events, but also for sharing them with us. As we currently have no technical limits on the number of submissions, we are publishing everything that is sent to us.
We therefore encourage anyone who would like to make use of the newsletter space – whether to promote events or share updates – to do so.
Ideally, please send your invitations in PDF format, and include photos separately in JPG format.
If the event has already taken place, we would love to receive a short report – perhaps with photos, fundraising outcomes, or highlights.

Serving Youth: Our Initiatives

See you soon, Argentina!

Sára Hana Slaninová, Argentina

On Thursday, 3 July, the day arrived when I had to leave my second home - Trevelin. I had always known that the exchange programme would last ‘only’ a year and that afterwards I would have to return to Slovakia, yet I had never been able to imagine these last few days.

Last Week in Chile

Viktorie Nachtigallová, Chile

My exchange year in Chile is drawing to a close. It is a curious feeling: I have only a few days left in a country that has taken root in my heart over the past year. It has been an incredible adventure, brimming with powerful experiences, new friendships and moments I shall remember for ever.

My Year in Australia: Getting Started

Tereza Mikulová, Australia

This Monday turned out to be a turning point for me. I packed my bits and pieces, boarded a plane, and roughly thirty hours later I found myself in the town of Dubbo, just about a five-hour drive from Sydney. The journey was arduous and long, yet full of experiences. I had two stop-overs - one in Dubai and the other in Sydney.

International Friendship and Collaboration

International Rotary Fellowship of Hunters

Rotary members come from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds and professions, but they all care about one thing: improving their own communities and helping those who need us most.

Friendship is strengthened by many things, such as shared experiences or interests. And so it is obvious that Rotarians join together under the umbrella of Rotary International, but across clubs, to form so-called fellowships. As the saying goes, "Better safe than sorry". And he is right. A great example of such an association is the International Rotary Fellowship of Hunters: https://www.irfh.eu/en/
