2. CYCLING ROUTES:
2.1. Cycle Tour beneath the Foothills of the High Tatras
The route is gentle with minimal ascent. It follows the Poprad River from Poprad - Spišská Sobota along the cycle path to Svit and Lučivná, then continues on the main road to Štrba. From Štrba we head towards Važec; almost at the top of the climb we turn right to the archaeological site of the abandoned village of Šoldov. From there we take a link road back to the main road at Tatranská Štrba. From the highest point of our route we return on the main road to Svit, then follow the cycle path back to Spišská Sobota.
2.2. Cycle Tour to Štrbské Pleso
Our destination is the most-visited spot in the High Tatras - Štrbské Pleso. The route follows the Poprad River from Poprad - Spišská Sobota along the cycle path to Svit and Lučivná, then continues on the main road to Štrba. From Štrba we follow the main road to Tatranská Štrba, then tackle a gentle 6 % climb up to Štrbské Pleso. We’ll also visit the Dreamland sports complex. After refreshments, we take Freedom Road via Vyšné Hágy, Nová Polianka, Tatranská Polianka, Tatranské Zruby and Nový Smokovec to Starý Smokovec, then continue to Veľký Slavkov for lunch. The ride finishes after a further 8 km back in Poprad - Spišská Sobota.
2.3. Cycle Tour to the Čierny Váh Pumped-Storage Power Station
Our goal is the upper reservoir of the Čierny Váh pumped-storage power station, with splendid views of the High, Low and Western Tatras. The route follows the Poprad River from Poprad - Spišská Sobota along the cycle path to Svit and Lučivná, then continues on the main road to Štrba. From there we proceed on the main road to Šuňava, then head towards Liptovská Teplička. Upon reaching the tributary Čierny Váh, we turn right into the valley and follow the road to the lower reservoir of the pumped-storage plant. From there we continue west to Svarín, turn right and climb to the upper reservoir. After refreshments and a short descent to the turn-off for the forest track to Východná, we descend to the railway station and on to Východná centre. Our return leg follows the main road via Važec and Tatranská Štrba back to Svit, where we rejoin the cycle path to Poprad - Spišská Sobota.
