In March, members of Rotary and Rotaract Club Martin had a unique opportunity to explore the beauty of Uganda while supporting an important educational project of the local Rotaract Club Kampala South. The visit brought not only unforgettable experiences but also new friendships and ideas for future cooperation.
In March, as members of Rotary and Rotaract Club Martin, we had the exceptional opportunity to visit Uganda thanks to RAC Kampala South member Derrick Kabuye, who organizes @rotaractugtrip on Instagram. Besides the rich program he prepared for us – including a safari, visits to the capital Kampala, the towns of Fort Portal and Kasese, the Lake Bunyonyi region, and gorilla trekking – our trip also included a visit to a school that this club has been supporting for a long time. Last year, we also contributed to its development by purchasing school desks for the newly built part of the school.
The school we visited is a great example of the impact an engaged community and international cooperation can have. Thanks to the support of Kampala South, children have access to basic education, facilities, and opportunities that would otherwise not be available. During our visit, the headmaster guided us through the entire school campus, showed us the progress achieved in recent years, and introduced future plans. The students and teachers gave us a warm welcome, and we spent an unforgettable day with them.
This experience was inspiring and strengthened our belief in the importance of international cooperation and solidarity in the spirit of Rotary values. We took away not only wonderful memories but also new friendships and ideas for future joint projects. We look forward to seeing Rotaract Kampala South present its global project, in which we believe we will collaborate within a global grant.
We are confident that this visit is just the beginning of long-term cooperation between our clubs and that together we will continue contributing to positive changes at Nyakijumba School.
