Tips for Club Communication on Social Media

Want more people to notice your club’s activities on social media? Vojta Bednář has compiled twenty practical and easy-to-follow tips for effective communication on Facebook and Instagram – from setting up your profiles, to the best times for posting, and key strategies to boost visibility and engagement. A must-read guide for anyone looking to take their club’s online presence to the next level.

  1. Have a Facebook page and an Instagram profile. Anything else is extra and only makes sense if someone can actively manage it.

  2. Clubs can only present themselves on Facebook via a page, not a profile (the type you can “friend”).

  3. Your page should be updated regularly – ideally once a week, or at least twice a month. If posting twice a month, try to do it on the same days.

  4. Everything you post should include an original photo and a caption. Don’t skimp on words when describing your activities, but avoid AI-generated images or texts.

  5. If sharing a link to an event, be sure to include a proper description – links alone rarely show up well.

  6. Instagram posts can’t contain clickable links, but you can place the link in your profile bio – do it! People are used to this.

  7. Almost anything you post on Facebook can also go on Instagram. On Instagram, make sure to follow other clubs. You can use the same images on both platforms, but always write different captions.

  8. The best time to post on Facebook is around 6 p.m., just before the main evening news. That’s when most people are online.

  9. Instagram captions can include hashtags. Use #rotary #rotaract #rotary2240 and similar. Don’t use hashtags in Facebook image captions.

  10. Ask nearby organizations, institutions, and partner clubs to follow your pages – and to like or share your posts when they can.

  11. Tell your members and their families to mark your Facebook page as a “favorite” – they can find the option under the “Follow” button. This not only helps them stay updated, but also boosts your overall visibility.

  12. Share your Facebook posts in local or Rotary-related groups – most cities have at least one, and often several. Just pick the biggest ones.

  13. Encourage your members and supporters to not only like but also comment on your posts – this significantly increases your reach.

  14. Let the admin of the official Rotary D2240 page (https://www.facebook.com/RotaryDistrict2240) know about your key posts and ask for shares or support. It pays off!

  15. When attending events or appearing in local media, mention that your club is on Facebook and Instagram – people will naturally start following you.

  16. If your club has a website, make sure to include links to your social media pages.

  17. Add links to your social media in your email signature.

  18. Don’t forget to check your Facebook and Instagram messages – but watch out for spam. Messages like “your account is restricted” are scams.

  19. If someone comments on your posts, respond – but no more than two replies per comment.

  20. The key to success is consistency and discipline.
