President of Rotary club Jičín – Nymburk
I’m proud to serve as president of the Rotary Club Jičín – Nymburk, originally established in 1994 under the name RC Jičín. Though we are a small group – just eight members – we continuously prove that a small team can make a big difference. We meet every Tuesday at 6:30 PM, alternating between Nymburk and Jičín.
This year, our focus shifted due to the devastating floods in the region. Instead of supporting our usual beneficiaries, we decided to help the grammar school in Jeseník, which was heavily damaged. Thanks to a generous donation of CZK 100,000 from our member Jan Hnilica, we were able to offer meaningful support.
Next year, we will again organize the World Marathon Challenge, a traditional athletic relay race for elementary school students from the Jičín area. Around 250 children aged 7 to 13 participate each year. They run in 200-meter relay segments, together covering the full marathon distance of 42,195 meters.
In the spring, we face an exciting challenge – hosting the district conference. We're thrilled at the opportunity to welcome fellow Rotarians from across the district and showcase the beauty of our region. The accompanying program will include visits to Nymburk’s historic town center, Křinec Castle, Bohumil Hrabal’s cottage, and the local brewery.
