Orientation meeting II. - Kromeříž

On Friday, 22 November, the Youth Dormitory of the Secondary Sc

This time, the event was held without the presence of parents and spanned the entire weekend. It was more intensive. "Students seriously considering a stay abroad must demonstrate not only independence and the ability to handle unexpected situations but also solid language skills. For English-speaking countries, even more so," said Mirek Barák. "For instance, students aiming to go to the USA—a consistently popular choice—must meet specific language requirements set by some partner districts, such as a B1 level in English. They also need a broad general

"Of course, there is interest in countries other than the USA. For example, Canada, Thailand, India, South Korea, Japan, Mexico, and, of course, the ever-popular Brazil. Within Europe, students travel to countries like France, Spain, Italy, and even Germany," adds Ondrej Kollár.

"This year, fifty students gathered. To select the most suitable country for each of them, we need to get to know them better. We gather basic information from their schools, sponsoring clubs, parents, and the students themselves. However, it is essential that they complete language tests and interviews. These not only assess their language proficiency but also evaluate their resilience to stress, adaptability to cultural differences, and their ability to adjust to a new culture, family, and school" explains Mirek Barák.

The meeting took place in a calm and friendly atmosphere, running without any issues—exactly as I had anticipated. This smooth execution is thanks to the Rotarians who came to assist, the "Rotex" participants who play a key role in organising the programme for all Youth exchange events, and above all, the organisation and expertise of the RYE leadership team.

The next meeting will be OM III., which is mandatory for those interested in long-term exchanges. It will be held online on 27 March 2025, at 6:00 PM.
