On the evening of 7 November 2025, Bořetice was transformed into a vibrant hub of Rotary tradition. Guided by Jaroslav Benda, the Rotary Club Valtice-Břeclav hosted its now-traditional “St Martin’s Goose” feast, welcoming 72 guests drawn from members, friends and supporters alike.
The organisers greeted everyone in true Moravian fashion - with a warming welcome toast.
The evening opened with a talk on the theme “Service above Self”, specially prepared for the occasion by František Ryneš of Rotary Club Třebíč.
The highlight of the event was a charity auction in which guests bid enthusiastically for donations provided by local winemakers and Rotarians. The proceeds reached an impressive CZK 31,500, which will be donated to the operator of Diakonie ČCE - Betlém Centre (www.betlem.org).
Naturally, the menu featured a perfectly roasted St Martin’s goose served with flavourful red cabbage, accompanied by tastings of young wines. The friendly atmosphere was further enhanced by a cimbalom band that provided musical accompaniment throughout the evening.
“It’s wonderful that we can combine Moravian traditions with helping those in need. Every bid in the auction means a contribution to a good cause,” commented auctioneer Jaroslav Benda.
Thus, the St Martin’s Goose feast in Bořetice left its mark not only on the guests’ taste buds, but also on the local community, which - thanks to the Rotary Club Valtice-Břeclav - gains renewed impetus for solidarity and charity.
“Thank you all for coming and for your support. I truly appreciate it!” Jaroslav concluded.
We look forward to seeing you again next year, so be sure to mark your diaries:
