On 21–22 November 2025, the Assistant Governor Seminar of District 2240 was held in Velké Pavlovice with the participation of DG Jan Bílek, DGE Ivana Lengová, and DGN Theo Petřík. The event offered a well-balanced educational program, space for discussion, and the exchange of experience among district leaders and assistant governors. Participants focused on the responsibilities of AGs, cooperation with club presidents and secretaries, the potential of The Rotary Foundation, and the preparation of training within the Rotary Academy aimed at strengthening leadership skills among Rotarians in our district.
The evening before the seminar took place in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. After arrival and check-in at Hotel Lotrinský, participants enjoyed a guided wine tasting, which provided a pleasant opportunity for initial conversations and informal networking.
Saturday’s professional program was opened by DS PDG Katarína Čechová with a session on the role of the assistant governor within clubs and the district. She emphasized the position of the AG as an official of Rotary International, responsible for regular communication with clubs, supporting club presidents, and maintaining consistent, meaningful contact between AGs, clubs, and the district governor. Her presentation also explained the criteria of a functional club and highlighted the importance of continuity in the work of AGs.
This was followed by a presentation from DS Assistant Ota Kovář focused on cooperation between AGs and club secretaries. He reminded participants of the essential and irreplaceable role that secretaries play in the administrative functioning of clubs, in managing membership data, and in meeting required deadlines. The discussion also addressed ways to correct deficiencies in club data in public registers, as well as membership statistics, age structure, and the need to involve younger members more actively in club life.
In the late morning, Vojtěch Bednář, corporate sociologist and member of RC Olomouc–City, offered an external perspective on developing leadership and communication skills. He introduced the concept of the training platforms he uses in his professional practice and explained how modern educational formats can enrich the Rotarian environment. His contribution created an excellent transition for DGE Ivana Lengová to present her plan to bring the Rotary Academy in our district into full operation. Together with PDG Zdeněk Michálek, she introduced Rotary International’s training offerings and outlined how the academy can support member development, club stability, and the preparation of future leaders. They also provided an overview of how individual RI courses align with the practical needs of clubs.
In the afternoon, PDG Irena Brichta presented the current opportunities offered by The Rotary Foundation. Assistant governors received an overview of grant possibilities, club qualification requirements, and ways to effectively support clubs in planning projects that bring sustainable benefits and meet Foundation standards.
The event concluded with a joint discussion and sharing of experiences from club practice. The seminar confirmed that AG meetings play a vital role in supporting clubs and strengthening connections across the entire district. Velké Pavlovice proved to be an ideal and peaceful central location for both professional and community-oriented gatherings. We extend our thanks to DG Jan Bílek for preparing a meaningful and valuable seminar program and selecting a pleasant and dignified venue.
