Education and development are shared priorities of our district’s incoming Governor, Ivana Lengová, and her successor, Theodor Petřík. To help turn these priorities into reality, the Rotary Academy was established, and we would now like to introduce it to you.
The Academy is a district committee established by the Governor to support education and development. Its role is to prepare and offer educational activities for both officers and members of clubs in District 2240. In doing so, we will endeavour to use traditional approaches as well as modern methods of sharing experience and imparting knowledge. The Academy’s mission is to provide all members of clubs in our district with as much information as possible from Rotary International, together with practical skills and experience from various areas of professional and personal life. We aim to deliver this in the most practical way possible so that participants can apply what they learn in their everyday lives.
The Rotary Academy’s first “product” was a webinar for presidents-elect held ahead of this year’s PELS. It will be followed by further online and in-person educational events. We would also like to share our knowledge and practical experience through personal visits to individual clubs.
The Academy’s purpose and mission are to offer clubs opportunities for the individual development of their members, based entirely on voluntary participation and willingness to learn. Indeed, such activities cannot be successfully delivered in any other way.
The Academy’s members are Rotarians who work professionally in education and development: PDG Zdeněk Michálek, a long-standing entrepreneur and specialist in this field; PDG Irena Brichta, a specialist in development and charitable activities; PDG Petr Jan Pajas, a legislative specialist and education manager; Jana Přikrylová, an associate professor and business consultant; coach Blažena Mačáková; and corporate sociologist Vojtěch Bednář. As our activities continue to expand, however, we will greatly appreciate the assistance of other friends, specialists and experts in particular fields.
The Rotary Academy would not have been possible without the initiative of incoming Governor Ivana Lengová and the kind support of Theodor Petřík and our current District Governor, Jan Bílek. We thank them, and everyone else involved, for their trust and look forward to meeting you.
On behalf of the Rotary Academy, I wish you every success.
Vojtěch Bednář
