A highly successful 20th edition of “Cycling or Walking around the LVA”

On the weekend of 23-25 May 2025, the twentieth edition of the social‐sporting event “Cycling or Walking around the LVA”, organised by Rotary Club Valtice-Břeclav, took place in the stunning landscape of the Lednice-Valtice Area (LVA) and the Blue Mountains.

Around ten keen Rotarians, most accompanied by their partners, joined the cycling peloton. Over the course of two days we covered roughly 120 kilometres along the picturesque lanes of the Velké Pavlovice wine sub-region.

The event’s programme was truly packed! Friday’s cycle ride, led by the seasoned organiser Jaroslav Benda, set off at 9.30 am from the customary meeting point by the Velké Pavlovice Town Hall. We all savoured the tranquil forest tracks of the LVA, the sweeping vineyard views and our first tastings of wine straight from the vine. In the evening we enjoyed the traditional gala dinner in a wine cellar, where gastronomic specialities were served alongside a selection of Moravian wines.

Saturday’s programme—assembly at 10.00 am at the Town Hall—took us through the Blue Hills and along the quiet meanders of the water channels. Lunchtime proved especially pleasant: not only did we relish excellent food, but we were also treated to a tasting of premium wines at the HORÁK winery.

The entire weekend was imbued with the spirit of sport, discovery and the sharing of experiences. Friendly conversations sprang up along the route, giving rise to ideas for future Rotary projects and plans for next year’s edition.

We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to Jaroslav Benda and his wife Nadě for their professional organisation—and, indeed, to all the women whose tireless support provided such outstanding hospitality throughout the event.
