Alexander Nosek
President of RC Jihlava 2023/2024
My name is Alexander Nosek, born in Jihlava in 1953. I graduated from the Faculty of General Medicine at Charles University in Prague in 1977. Since 1981, I've practiced as a general practitioner in Polna, a small town near Jihlava. My wife, Zuzana, and I have been together since 1980. We have two adult children: Lucia, our elder daughter, works in finance, and our son Alex, also a doctor, recently returned to my practice after several years working abroad. In my abundant spare time, I enjoy annual mountain trips, both in summer and winter. Initially, I explored the Czech and Slovak mountains, later venturing to higher altitudes. Apart from hiking and skiing, I'm passionate about cycling and tennis.
I joined Rotary in 1993, invited by our founding member and first president, my friend Pavel Svitil. I had the privilege of serving as club president during 1999/2000, coinciding with the formation of independent District 2240 for the Czech and Slovak Republics, with Dobroslav Zeman as our inaugural District Governor.
Our club received its charter in 1993, ranking among the first Rotary clubs in the Czech and Slovak Republics. Nearly half of our current members joined me in celebrating this significant milestone. With over 30 years of history, we stand as pioneers in revitalizing Rotary tradition in our countries. Our initial inspiration came from our foreign partner clubs: RC Traun (Austria), Kitzingen (Germany), and Purmerend (Netherlands). Today, our club thrives on a strong bond between seasoned members and younger, dynamic participants. We gather every Thursday evening at Nika Atrium, a restaurant owned by one of our members, for engaging lectures on diverse topics. This year, we were honored by visits from the renowned director and actor Jan Kačer.
I look forward to the incoming board's fresh ideas while maintaining our core activities. I anticipate surprises...
Throughout its history, RC Jihlava has successfully completed over 40 projects benefiting education, seniors, social services, and other regional organizations. We actively participate in youth exchange programs and co-organize pre-Christmas benefit concerts annually. Our 2022 highlight was a fundraiser for the "Ambulance for Ukraine" project, spearheaded by our fellow Rotarian, Michal Sláma from RC Pardubice.
Reflecting on the concluding Rotary year 2023/2024, celebrating our 30th charter anniversary stands out. We were honored by the presence of our international friends from RC Meissen, Bihać, and Traun, as well as our regional city's mayor. Notable events included our traditional summer cycling camp for European youth and a successful Christmas concert featuring renowned artists Gabriela Beňačková, Jakub Pustina and Kateřina Hebelková.
Over three decades with Rotary have enriched my life with positive experiences and the chance to contribute to meaningful projects. It's a rewarding journey.
