Kharkiv Rotarians' Call to Help Children

Call for Temporary Accommodation for Children from Kharkiv and Surrounding Areas

Dear Rotarians,

Ukraine is currently facing immense challenges due to the ongoing war with Russia. Residential areas in Kharkiv are damaged and some completely destroyed by the fighting, suffering from lack of electricity, heat and other basic utilities. With winter approaching, many Ukrainian families are deeply concerned about their children’s well-being in these difficult conditions.

Rotarians in Kharkiv are reaching out for support. They are exploring the possibility of temporarily relocating schoolchildren outside the war zone. In this effort, they seek families in the Czech Republic and Slovakia who are willing to provide temporary homes for these children during the winter months, and are also open to opportunities for including children and youth in summer camps.

How Can You Help?

  1. Providing Accommodation for Children
This involves hosting children with suitable families for the winter period (3-4 months). All students from Kharkiv are continuing their education online, so there is no need to arrange schooling in the Czech Republic or Slovakia during their stay. However, it will be necessary to provide appropriate supervision and care during school hours and extracurricular time.
  2. Supporting Participation in Summer Camps
Rotarians can offer children the opportunity to join summer camps either through clubs’ own programs or by sponsoring their participation in camps abroad.

All organizational and administrative matters on the Ukrainian side are managed by the project team from Kharkiv:

  • Tetiana Glushchenko
Past President of the Rotary Club "Kharkiv First Capital"
Coordinator of the project "Rotary - Children of Heroes" in Ukraine
    Email: tatyanaglushchenko2703@gmail.com
    Phone: +380675796373
  • Inessa Glushchenko
President of the Rotary Club "Kharkiv First Capital"
Head of the Office of Foreign Economic Activities and International Relations
    Email: inessa.gluschenko@gmail.com
    Phone: +380661644840

If you are interested in providing temporary accommodation for children during the winter, please contact the representatives listed above directly.

I have also reached out to our District’s Executive Council regarding potential financial support for summer camps. Any assistance or contributions from clubs in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your attention to this important request. Your solidarity can make a lasting impact on the lives of Ukrainian children.
