MUDr. Martin Svoreň (1946), current president of Rotary Club Nitra
I was honored to assume the role of President of the Rotary Club of Nitra for the Rotary year 2024/2025, following the traditional rotation of leadership within the club. Professionally, I have dedicated 56 years to dentistry as a specialist, and I continue to work full-time in my private practice.
My activities within the club, beyond participating in joint events, have primarily focused on awareness and education, particularly in prevention, and on the practical implementation of service projects.
Upon joining the Rotary Club of Nitra in 2001 and becoming familiar with the Four-Way Test, I realized that its principles have long guided my personal and professional life. These four questions have been invaluable in both work and private situations.
I deeply value the opportunities to engage in events organized by our club and other Rotary clubs. Looking ahead, I hope to continue contributing to the Rotary Club of Nitra, fostering its growth while pursuing my personal development.
In my personal life, I enjoy cottage gardening, piloting powered gliders, and playing tennis. These hobbies bring me joy, vitality, and balance.
The Rotary Club of Nitra, which I am privileged to lead as it celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2024/2025, comprises 11 full members and 12 honorary members. Since its establishment on July 27, 1995, the club has continuously renewed its membership. We meet regularly every Monday at the Artin guesthouse, nestled at the foot of Zobor.
In today’s challenging and often contradictory times, the club operates under more demanding conditions. However, our members remain committed to mutual respect, motivation, and reliability, always aligned with Rotary’s mission. We draw inspiration from the motto:
"We are fortunate to be able to help others ... another person is a gift."
Our shared dedication drives our voluntary and selfless support of organizations, schools, and civic associations, particularly those focusing on people with disabilities, children, and healthcare.
In 2023/2024, we supported the Lienka NGO, helping integrate children with autism into everyday life. We serviced external cardiac defibrillators in the MLYNY and MAX shopping centers as part of the 155 lifeline initiative. We supported Ukrainian schoolchildren by purchasing public transport tickets and organizing joint activities with refugee families. We donated anti-swelling mattresses to the Borinka Social Services Facility in Nitra for Alzheimer’s patients. We contributed to the University Hospital in Nitra by helping purchase equipment for newly opened pavilions. Additionally, we supported talented children individually and provided ongoing assistance to organizations such as OZ Nie rakovine and Comin, a contact point for refugees. We also donated annually to support the care and feeding of abandoned dogs.
Our club is also active internationally, organizing annual trips for inbound students to Budapest, where they visit historical sites and meet with local Rotary clubs. Several members also contribute to district-level initiatives.
I am particularly proud of the most technically and financially demanding project in our club’s history: the redesign of the United Boarding School for Autistic Children in Nitra. This included equipping a changing room for 80 children. This project, made possible by countless volunteer hours from club members and generous contributions from businesses, has been sustainably benefiting the education of children with disabilities for nearly a decade.
I trust that the Rotary Club of Nitra will remain steadfast in its commitment to Rotary’s ideals, continuing to serve our community and promote humanity for many years to come.
